The International Baccalaureate

UWC-USA is an International Baccalaureate (IB) pioneer. Before 1982 there were very few IB schools in the U.S. and many U.S. colleges had no idea what to do with our graduates. Today the IB is accepted as one of the most comprehensive and challenging college preparatory curricula in the world. Offered at over 3,000 schools worldwide, the IB requires a wide breadth and depth of academic inquiry that consistently prepares IB students for study and work in a complex world. Most U.S. universities and colleges grant college credit or advanced standing for successful IB graduates.

The IB asks students to explore and understand how they know what they know. With UWC-USA’s dramatically diverse population, these questions become richer and more important. All UWCs adopt the IB curriculum and emphasize the skills of creative problem-solving, collaboration, cross-cultural communication, and community organization.

“Education is about individual accomplishment, but it is about so much more. It is about how individual accomplishment can be part of a better future for all.”
