UWC-USA is fortunate to have strong community ties with families throughout Northern New Mexico. Get-Away Families provide gracious friendship and connection for our students. The relationships that develop through the Get-Away Family Program are the foundation for intercultural understanding and forge strong ties between our local and global communities.
We try to match students and families who have similar interests and provide opportunities for students and approved families to meet on campus before finalizing a match.
Experiencing life in a typical USA home deepens students’ understanding of the local culture and people.
Students are proud to share their culture and customs with local families, who welcome the opportunity to learn.
Sometimes students seek a break from communal living. A Get-Away family visit can provide a welcome time away from campus routines.
UWC-USA’s emphasis on experiential learning through wilderness, community service, and cultural exchange is unexpected in traditional academic environments. It’s about creating real-world impact and fostering empathy.”
