Crew, Not Passengers

“We are crew, not passengers…” is a foundational principal of UWC that underlies the weekly campus service requirement. Students experience the joy and sense of belonging that comes from contributing to the smooth operation of the campus.

Active Participation

No one sits back and watches—everyone does their share and owns a part of the results.

Students take ownership for the collective well-being of the community and are accountable to each other.

Explore Service Activities

Every student participates in a wide variety of service opportunities — from repairing bikes, to conducting admissions tours — so they can understand the work necessary to support a school, and do their part to maintain a healthy community. Many students serve as Residential Advisors, providing peer leadership in the dorms in the areas of conflict resolution, student wellness, examining ways to minimize the environmental impact of the campus, and fostering equity and inclusion.

Bike Repair

Students maintain and repair the school’s fleet of mountain bikes to keep them roadworthy and ready for action.

Admissions Advisory

The Admissions Advisory Committee promotes UWC to prospective students and their families.

Performance Tech

Lights, sound, and video for performances throughout the school year are primarily staffed by students.

Student Council

Student Council is elected and organized by students’ geographical home regions to ensure all voices are heard.
