Q&A with Margaret

What do you love about teaching or your role at the school?
I love the breadth of experiences and the varied linguistic, cultural and educational backgrounds my students offer to our shared examination of texts, and appreciate the brilliance and youthful energy they share with me. I love fostering students’ improvement in their reading, analysis and writing, and I love deep conversations about what we can infer that authors and creators may be saying, and how the techniques they choose support their messages. I love exploring with my students how texts affect readers, and what truths they may impart.
Fostering the growth of each individual student is my professional objective and delight. I love to observe the transformations of adolescents into adults! Education is how I invest my efforts toward a future world, and I trust my present and past students to manage the gradually-but-ever-improving world in which I hope to grow old, marveling at their contributions to our mutual well-being. The arc of the moral universe is long, after all, but they will surely see to it that it continues to bend toward justice.
