UWC-USA will host its next Distinguished Alumni Speaker Series event on February 26, 2026, at 6:30 p.m. Mountain Time, bringing together two alumni leaders in education for a virtual conversation about smartphones in schools.

As schools across the country wrestle with questions about attention, mental health, equity, and academic integrity, this panel will explore how educators and parents can thoughtfully respond to concerns about smartphones. The discussion may examine questions such as: Do phones increase or decrease connection? What are schools learning about distraction and engagement? And how can communities balance connection and boundaries in an increasingly digital world?

Panelist Jonathan Mason  ’01 is a veteran educator and lead teacher at The Logan School for Creative Learning in Denver, where he focuses on experiential and project-based learning and community-building in the classroom.

Joining him is Jason Coady ‘93 is the current Head of School at Stuart Hall, whose career spans teaching, dorm parenting, curriculum development, and school leadership, with a strong interest in how learning environments evolve.

The conversation will be moderated by Andrew Mahlstedt, Interim Head of School at UWC-USA, whose academic background and deep commitment to learning will guide the evening’s conversation.

All alumni and friends of the UWC-USA community are invited to join this session. Please register here to receive the link for the zoom session.
