Subarna Bandyopadhyay Sampat

Subarna teaches Mathematics – Analysis and Approaches (AA) and Application and Interpretations (AI). She is one of the three incoming Heads of Faculty for 2026-2027 and is very excited to be in this new position. Subarna has a Masters in Physics from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT). She has been a teacher of mathematics (briefly taught Theory of Knowledge) in UWCs for 17 years now and has been in different roles throughout this time – from being a classroom teacher to a residential parent to gap-year coordinator to Designated Safeguarding Lead to Group Chair of mathematics. Subarna loves working with our diverse student body in different ways, whether it be leading different experiential education trips to working with them in the local animal shelter to acting in various student-directed plays. She has worked in four different UWCs – Mahindra UWC of India, UWC Dilijan – Armenia, UWC Changshu China and UWC-USA.

What do you love about teaching or your role at the school?
The classrooms at UWC are so diverse, wonderful, challenging, demanding, joyful and participatory, and that is what I love.
I believe that a UWC is a unique and special place and it has been and continues to be my privilege being part of the journey of so many students over the last sixteen years.
