Dhara Levers

Dhara joined the Science Department at UWC-USA in August of 2025, where she teaches Biology and Environmental Systems and Societies (ESS). Originally from Jamaica, she has more than 24 years of teaching experience in Jamaica, the Cayman Islands, Bahrain, and now New Mexico. Over the course of her career, in addition to IB, she has taught middle and high school science and mathematics. Dhara earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Georgetown University and a Master of Education in Secondary Education from the University of Southern California.

Passions

Reading is one of my passions, as it offers a gateway to empathy and perspective. It allows me to explore different cultures, understand diverse points of view, and make sense of the world around me. At the same time, reading is a way for me to pause, de-stress, and get lost in stories or ideas — offering moments of quiet in an often chaotic world. As an educator, I value reading not just for its academic power, but for its ability to humanize, comfort, and connect.

Q&A with Dhara

What do you love about teaching or your role at the school?

As a science teacher, I love using the content to explore how we respond to challenges, create balance, distinguish between anomalies and paradigm shifts, and apply multiple perspectives to make meaning. Witnessing those “aha” moments when students make connections is the best part of teaching!

What do you think parents and students should know about you?

I’m excited to begin my 24th year of teaching, and a fun fact is that I started my career at the very high school I attended! In our class, everyone’s ideas matter, creativity is a big deal, and mistakes are just part of learning.
