As the Learning Expedition Coordinator at UWC-USA, Gus manages all the details for the bi-weekly Friday Expeditions as well as our week-long expeditions, Southwest Studies and Project Week. Gus spent the majority of his career working in the polar regions supporting scientific research in a variety of positions including Winter Search and Rescue Lead at McMurdo Station, Antarctica and Science Technician at Summit Station, Greenland. Gus’s attention to detail ensures that our teachers and students engage in safe and productive expeditions. He has a BS in Environmental Geology and a Certificate in Geographic Information Systems from New Mexico Highlands University, along with a Wilderness First Responder certification. Gus and his family live on campus.

What do you love about teaching or your role at the school?

I expect to be “behind-the-scenes” mostly, so probably very little. But I have a wide range of life experience and expertise that I’m looking forward to applying and sharing.
