Olayenni Elenitoba-Johnson ‘26 and Silia Martz ‘25 are roommates who really enjoyed the thoughtful conversations that are so common at the beginning of the school year. With academic pressures mounting and more and more activities filling their days, students have had less time to share their thoughts about the kinds of topics that are close to their hearts. Silia and Olayenni decided to act and initiated a conversation event and baked fresh bread to bring people together even more. “We decided we wanted to start hosting informal discussions about important issues in the world to provide a space for these discussions to take place,” Olayenni said. “We didn’t want to wait for them to occur naturally and risk not having them. Our intention was not to create a series of debates, simply to begin facilitating conversations. Our goal is to bring back a culture of discussions in dayrooms for everyone.” The first conversation lasted for hours and was a great success. Silia and Olayenni are planning more conversations this year.
