Alexis Mamaux, who has been teaching history at UWC-USA for over 25 years, is again helping shape how IB students around the world understand the past. A longtime author for Oxford University Press, Alexis has co-authored two new titles for the 2026 IB History syllabus: The Americas and Protest and Change. Both volumes are designed to support higher-level analysis, bring in a wide range of perspectives, and guide students through the skills they need for success in the Diploma Programme.
As IBDP Coordinator and History teacher, as well as Director of IB Workshops at UWC-USA, Alexis routinely works with students and teachers who are testing and refining these lessons and units in real classrooms in Montezuma. Her authorship adds a powerful dimension to that work by bringing an international education lens to the study of history.
Alexis sees a direct link between her roles as educator and author: “As one of the first IB schools in the US, UWC-USA has been on the cutting edge of international education, and working with students who rise to the rigor is a constant source of inspiration for me. Being a writer puts me in the shoes of my students as I research, fact check, write and revise my work. Just like my students, I celebrate the completion of a successful endeavor, and I thank all of them for keeping my academic and intellectual journey vibrant and fun.”
These new textbooks extend UWC‑USA’s classroom expertise to IB schools worldwide and underscore the school’s deep contribution to international education.
