UWC-USA was founded in 1982 as the fifth school in the UWC movement. The campus and grounds were a founding gift from Armand Hammer, in response to a request from then-Prince Charles (now King Charles the Third), who at the time was serving as president of the UWC movement. The campus buildings and grounds were previously a luxury resort hotel constructed by the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe railway, a Baptist college, and a seminary for Catholic priests. They were purchased and renovated by Armand Hammer in 1981.
More than 200 students come from all over the world each year to experience the transformative education we offer at UWC-USA. Because when young people learn to look at the world differently and embrace conflict with curiosity rather than certainty, differences become catalysts for empathy, resilience, and innovative problem solving.
At UWC-USA students take on leadership roles, navigate cultural complexities, and turn ideas into action. Their potential isn’t confined—it’s expanded, ignited, and transformed into a lifetime of purpose.
