Oscar Ugalde '89

Oscar has studied overseas for seven years. He spent two years in Las Vegas, New Mexico at the Armand Hammer United World College of the American West where he obtained an I.B. Diploma. Of his UWC experience Oscar says, "UWC was an exceptional experience by which I was able to acquire cross-cultural tolerance and international understanding. It has provided me with the tools to confront a very demanding world."

After UWC, Oscar continued his university education at Clark University in Worcester, Massachusetts, where he obtained his B.A. in Economics. He spent his junior year in England at the London School of Economics. In 1993, he returned to Costa Rica where he worked for a few years in the cooperative sector and has worked as a lecturer at the university ever since.

In 1995, he started his M.B.A. at the Latin American University of Science and Technology with a specialization on trade. In 2001, he attended the Institute of Social Studies in the Netherlands, where he obtained a M.A. in Development Studies with a specialization in development studies.

After finishing his second Master's he began working for Global College and is now the administrative coordinator. It is a real pleasure to work for such a wonderful international program and with such wonderful students.

At the moment, he dedicates his free time to studying French and German as well as doing some research in economics. His hobbies are working out at the gym, jogging, watching French movies, and visiting his family.
