Global Issues
Throughout their first year, students
participate in the Global Issues program which expands the experience of international living and
the knowledge gained trough academic experiences. The Global Issues program hosts presentations,
typically focusing on issues such as war and peace, north-south relations, gender, the environment,
international economic relations, cross cultural values and demographic problems. The Global Issues
program provides a framework and focus for discussion and reflection among the students.
Constructive Engagement of Conflict
The
Constructive Engagement of Conflict program teaches students methods of resolving disputes. During
their first year they learn how to facilitate the movement of parties locked in conflict from their
outward positions to the underlying interests that are often at the root of conflicts. Along with
analytical and rhetorical skills, students learn effective listening skills and techniques for
processing diverse and often contradictory points of view.
